Huaca Huallamarca and Huaca Pucllana
These sites were developed and occupied from 200 BC to 200 AD by ancient pre-Inca cultures. They are cemeteries. Archaeological Museum
The National Archaeology, Anthropology and History Museum explores the history of Peru from prehistoric times to the colonial era. Stone carvings of figures and obelisks, wrapped mummies and burial tombs, jewelry, tapestries, gold and metal work, and scale models of many archeological sites are on display. Larco Museum and Amano Museum
The Larco Museum is a privately owned museum of pre-Columbian art, located in the Pueblo Libre District of Lima. Housed in an 18th century vice-royal mansion built over a 7th century pre-Columbian pyramid. It showcases chronological galleries that provide a thorough overview of Peruvian pre-Columbian history and is well known for its gallery of pre-Columbian erotic pottery.
The Amano is another privately owned museum. You will find selected pieces of ceramics and textiles arranged chronologically to illustrate the development throughout Peru’s pre-Columbian cultures. Historic Center of Lima
One of the most important destinations in Peru located principally in the city center and Rimac area. There you will visit museums, Colonial balconies, the Cathedral, and historical houses, churches, the Government Palace, catacombs and more. Dine in the De Aliaga house (you need reservations) which is the oldest Colonial house in South America. It has been owned by the De Aliaga family and their descendants since 1535. Real Felipe Fort and Navy Museum
The Real Felipe, the most imposing of all the fortresses built by the Spanish in their American colonies, located in Callao. It was constructed in 1747 as a defense against pirate attacks who knew very well that Spanish galleons, loaded with Inca gold, departed from here. Distance from the hotel: 45 minute ride. Barranco District
Now a bohemian and trendy district, with hip apartments overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Barranco was once Lima’s beach district for wealthy people (during the 1800s). At the beginning of the 20th century it was home to famous Peruvian writers and artists. Barranco has kept part of its colonial charm, as you will see when you stroll around and visit the old colonial houses that remain. Distance from the hotel: 30 minute ride.
Larcomar and Miraflores Seawalk
Strolling around the seawalk in Miraflores district you’ll be surrounded by beautiful parks overlooking the Pacific Ocean. On Sundays you will see parents playing with their children, walking their dogs, jogging, or just passing time. Along this seawalk, on the top of the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is Larcomar shopping mall where you will find shops, boutiques, restaurants, discos, cafes, libraries, cinemas, a theatre, and of course Peruvian arts and handicrafts. Lima Metropolitan Museum
The museum is housed in an imposing structure from 1925 which is a historic monument. The history of Lima is shown inside, not through displays, exhibits, showcases or objects but through a show, it is a visual museum. Using images, movies, videos (2D, 3D, 4D), holograms and projections you will learn about Lima´s history, food, music, architecture, religion, literature and entertainment.
